What is Turbulence?

Another reason for bumpy air…

Convective Clouds

Some clouds just look lumpy, and it’s a good bet that they ARE bumpy inside. The word “convective” means air is moving up (and sometimes down) inside a cloud.

This will definitely make for a bumpy ride!

We can avoid the worst “cloud turbulence” by flying around the biggest clouds. Even at night time, our weather radar can show us where these are.

We can’t avoid ALL clouds, or we would never get to our destination (there are lots of clouds in the sky, some days).
