How Cold is it Outside?

So that’s it… it is so VERY cold outside because we fly so high.

Does that extreme cold cause any problems? Not really… jet engines like it when it is cold because it helps keep them cool. And those engines generate so much heat that there is plenty spare to heat the cabin to a comfy temperature.

About the only problem is at EXTREMELY cold temperatures, such as long flights near the North or South Pole, where it is so cold that if special precautions are not taken the fuel in the fuel tanks can freeze, Don’t worry, we are not going to let this happen, but that is a story for another time.

I hope you enjoyed our look at “How Cold is it Outside”.

Hector loves the weather. He is particularly interested in how weather affects aviation, and he provides detailed analysis of how the weather may impact Junior Flyer flights. One of the best things about being a meteorologist, according to Hector, is that other people think he has some kind of psychic ability, but really it is just old fashioned science. Best of all, however, is that he can wear whatever kind of zany shirts he likes when he goes to work.
