What's That Noise?
Approach: "Engines Loud, Quiet, Loud, Quiet..."
Some days the air is windy, and gusty. This means that the air is bumpy and moving at different speeds in different places.

To keep our speed through the air constant we need to add power from the engines, or reduce power from the engines. We will make adjustments to this all the way through the approach, and you will hear the engine sound change as we do this.
Approach is what pilots call the last bit of the flight when we are "approaching" the runway.
Another sound after we land may take you by surprise...
This is why
they pay us
the big bucks!
